Gastronomic Málaga

If you live in the South of Spain, it is very nice to go on holiday in your own country. Two taps on your Booking.com app and you see hotels from 40 euros per night. Try it … Córdoba 4 stars hotel (8.1) for 38 euros, Granada (8.9) apartment for 34 euros, Seville (8.2) for 40 euros. Okay, maybe Seville is a bit too hot now and again from September … A good reason to go to Málaga now: 3 stars (8.3), city center for 68 euros and on the Mediterranean, so not so hot …

Mieke and I use every excuse to stay 1, 2, 3 or even 4 nights in Málaga. What a wonderful city with more and more culture! It seems that in the Picasso museum more and more beautiful work hangs and it remains a feast to immediately see the Grand Master with a paintbrush with white paint to see a smear on a glass slide … A wipe and you see a bull. Apart from the museums there is also a cinema with recent films in the original versions with Spanish subtitles.

It takes only half an hour Googling on a terrace to retreive a long list of things to be able to do everything for days. Málaga has everything that makes large Spanish cities so nice. Beautiful avenidas, beautiful buildings, parks, many hotels, more and more apartments, nice or nice, often very well priced. Beautiful shopping streets with all known shops, beautiful squares and the harbor. And a lot of bars and restaurants. The gastronomic level continues to rise. The star restaurant of José Carlos García and the Bib Gourmand Figón de Juan, eating culinary tapas at KGB, absolute recommendations. Gourmet delights for tapas prices! But in any case the messy cosiness of many streets with cafeterias, bars and huge restaurants. We also like to arrive in very different neighborhoods than the center of Málaga. Certainly not less fun. On the contrary!

For example, there is the extensive beach both on the western side of the harbor and on the eastern side. An endless long boulevard with beach restaurants running through very nice neighborhoods like Pedregalejo with El Balneario (Baños del Carmen), Las Acacias and El Palo. And our favorite is the restaurant and beach bar el Candado, where you can eat. Again I would like to recommend the blog stefaniavanlieshout.com here. Stefania lives in Málaga and writes from the heart, in her blog are many nice details about the city.

In my previous article I have already mentioned a site that is probably ready when the next Especial Life is released. It started out as a joke, but it is taking on bigger and more serious forms. For the tenants of our apartments we have created a restaurant list to name the restaurants of Estepona and give a description and appreciation.

Long story short: that has resulted in making a site, where you can easily upload or rate restaurants that you would like to recommend to your ‘Peer Group’. Your favorite restaurants that you want your friends, acquaintances and other interested people to eat. It is based on an idea that could have been from Johan Cruijff: “… if you are not at home, you are somewhere else … and there you have to stay and know where to eat …” A site by and for Gourmets and Gourmands, people who love good food and are willing to pay for it or walk a little further. In the next issue of Especial Life I will tell you more about it and especially why that site will differ from the already existing sites in that area.
